Doppelgängers of the Angling World Part XXVIII

Right you are then,we have not had one of these since December and so without further ado I'll slip in a very quick update.

Has anyone ever seen these two anglers on the bank at any one time?Below we have fellow blogger Russell Hilton who's blog can be found here below.

And here we have the Bear from the old television programme Bo Selacta, with a nice winter caught Mirror Carp, looking very dapper in the trapper hat I must say, these do seem to be all the vogue these days within the angling fraternity.

Wet where you are?As ever the weekend has arrived and it's pissing down and howling outside like a good 'un.The rivers are back in the fields again around our way,so this weekend will be a no show on the angling front. It just seems to go on and on,the low pressure system that is bringing rain upon rain upon rain. Will the rivers return to normal winter levels, before the season ends,it does seem a long shot at present.

It may have to be some Perch fishing on a commercial fishery next Saturday, just so that I can get my fix sated and wet a line.So it will be feet up in front of the box for us here at Yat Rock tomorrow,a bottle of plonk and the start of the six nations.

I could also laugh at that diminutive Portuguese manager, moaning about our superb defensive display on Monday night at Stamford Bridge. But,well he has never endorsed those tactics in big European games has he not.Pot and Kettle oh narcissistic one.

Enjoy your weekend.

Lure Fishing Again

Fishing for me last weekend was out of the equation,it was my old mans 67th birthday and as a treat we had arranged to meet over at Upton Park, where we were yet again abysmal.I know what you are thinking, you must really hate your old man,to subject him to that on his birthday. This season though we have mostly been shocking.

Chuck into the mix I have had the shits. One minute Thursday evening I was fine, then out of know where came a torrent upon torrent of the runs.Every time I went to cross the bathroom threshold and come back downstairs the loo morphed into the Exorcist "You can't leave I want to play".Christ I ended up with cramp in my legs I spent so long on the throne.

All this week I've been looking at the EA website, checking the river levels.Up and down like a Yo-yo.And with more rain last night I got two sets of tackle ready. In the blue corner was the Barbel gear"Go on take us,give over to your inner Fatwa zealot,we will even open an account for you on Fatwa world, join us,join us".And in the red corner the lure gear"Well I'm not going to be christened sat at home"

The lure gear won.I got the first train down to the river today and it was,as to be expected still up,pushing hard and cloured. For the first hour I fished like a wanker,no really.I was casting a Mepps about with no real thought.I had a sit down and a little think"Look Monts, you know this river, the fish have to be feeding some where,it has been like this for weeks,if they don't eat they die"I went for a walk.

Settling into a large slack area, with a good depth under my feet I changed to a small Kopyto Shad with a seven gram jig head.I flicked the bait out and bounce,up,bounce,up,bounce, not up.Then the rod hooped right over and the clutch melted. No Perch this,a nice Pike shot up and decided to lead me a merry dance, tail walking and shaking her head, gills flared and a look of utter malevolence in her eyes. After a couple of minutes she rolled into the net.Maybe a scrapper double at best?A nice way to christen the rod.I gave it another half an hour and moved.

Looking for more slack areas I managed three Perch.None big,but a nice way to catch them. It's funny the bites were very delicate, more a tightening on the line, not a thump or a thud if that makes sense.Plus it's hopefully a way to avoid the Crayfish.

This is the soft lure that done the damage today, looking a little jaded at the end.Cheap as chips and if I may,a little plug now for a tackle company.I bought some gear online Monday evening from agmproducts. They arrived at home on Wednesday, they even refunded some postage, that to me that is very good service. Here be the link....

I packed up at 11.30,I would have stayed longer,on arrival the river was empty of other human life. But it being a lovely mild day, hordes of anglers adorned the banks necks craned to the sky looking at rod tops.I'll not moan to much,as most of us have been pissed off with all the water about,so other anglers want to get out.But yep I'm happy enough,no more rain please!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

New Toys

Christmas was a wash out for most of us in the South East of the country,my local rivers reached their highest ever levels owing to the floods.Watching the carnage reaped by the excess water on the news was a surreal experience.Roads and pathways that I walk down,to get to the river were under three feet of water.

Homes and businesses were submerged,so in the scheme of things not being able to fish was a very small thing compared to those that suffered flood damage.Though I'm sure Lady D would beg to differ,as I was climbing the walls by the end of the holidays.

Today though I was up and out early,my new toys were to get an airing, keeping an eye on the EA river levels all week things looked promising, with the water receding daily.

All Ready To Go.

When I arrived my heart sank, the level was still well up and a horrible tea colour. Not really conducive for a few hours lure fishing. But I was here so I gave it a go,starting with small shads, looking for some slack areas to bounce them along the bottom on a slow retrieve that brought no joy.Various swims, lure colours were tried to no avail. But it was nice to see how the new tackle performed. You could really feel the lure moving with little flicks and taps that the rod imparted. Then a rare, rare sight of late, the sun shone on Box Hill.

The last hour I decided to fish below the weir, where I have caught well in the past. The Pike patrol along a shelf about thirty feet out and the Perch closer in.I switched to a Mepps spinner hopeful that the added flash would bring some interests. No joy here also, the floods have deposited all manner of snags in the slack water. But thankfully no new shiny lures were lost in the process, around eleven o'clock I gave it up as a bad job.Nice to be out in the sun,it really was a cracking morning. My head says I maybe should have fished for Chub, but you know what its like, you have new toys and you just have to use them.On arriving home,a text message had to be sent to Mum,to let her know I got home safely.Mums eh,do they ever stop worrying?

Now some advice if I may be so bold.If there are any young budding specimen hunters reading this blog(can't think why not as this place is a hot bed of tips and tricks) please try not to get aired on the Discovery Shed channel.Poor old Matt Hayes and his programmes have been shown again and again.Look how it has aged him, yuk.Matt I know you look in from time to time, get yourself a facial mate.Clarins for Men is your best chance to regain your youthful boyish good looks,in a totally non homosexual way.

An appeal now........Have a heart you internet folk.Below we have dear old Rich Frampton, who is looking for a good forum to post on.After being banned from Fatwa a few years back,he recently purchased a small item of tackle with a view to posting on the forum again(you need your head examined Rich),but news into the Yat phone late last night,it appears he has been blown out.So If anyone out their can offer this loyal servant a good home to post on,please let me know here at Yat Rock.Or Rich, you can as Baz Fisher does, use Jerry Gleesons account, the dozy bugger.

I will come back to West Ham next week,as I want to see what transpires after today's game away to Cardiff .So enjoy the rest of your weekend.
