Lab Rats

Lab Rats, that was the task bestowed upon Gruff and I today as we ventured across from Surrey and into deepest Sussex,to fish with the legend that is the Sussex Hermit,Mr.Kevin Colston-Iles.Now I have not seen KCI for nearly two and a half years. His job and shift pattern see him mostly fish midweek.KCI will not thank me for this........But he has a list of large species that will make most people drool with envy,he has caught and caught well over the years. He was on the scene back in the day on the Medway in the mid 90s,when it started to produce large Barbel. He is without a shadow of a doubt the best angler I know, but also has a wicked and dry sense of humor. But we were needed to try and catch a few Pike,so the old fish chaser could find some hot spots and send us packing.

A Blot on the Barbel Scene Hoodie
He has this season been catching large Carp from this venue after a hiatus of twenty years, but asked Gruff and I along for a days Pike fishing.A lovely looking lake it was too,I'm sorry I cannot name the venue, well I'm not really as loose lips sink ships and all that.Arriving at first light it was a cold morning,I was wrapped up well against a cold and biting wind.Notice I did not say "Layer System" as this seems to be the new buzz phrase over on Fatwa,it is as if,they have just patented this phrase. It's "Layer System This, Layer System That".Sheep springs to mind.

Small Water Fall
As it was a bit of a social, time to catch up and have a chat we set up in fairly close proximity to each other.I was sandwiched in the middle.Gruff had the first action with a screaming take that dropped off quickly.Typical Gruff response and a string of expletives littered the Sussex countryside. You just cannot take him anywhere.Much mirth from KCI and I,but god can the man scowl when he looses a fish. Not to worry he was soon into another fish that tailed walked and shook her head and gave us a great show.Safely netted and weighed and a nice mid double was photographed and slipped back.

Next up was KCI and a small Jack that at first thought it was a large Pike such was the way the float shot away at speed. After this fish,KCI lost another while my baits were unmolested all day.I was getting some right stick, but when you have two people fishing either side of you, your bound to struggle right?

Now the weather forecast promised a lovely sunny day,but around noon it started to pour with rain, the kind that the wind brings straight into your face.So as well as blanking,I was getting soaked too,not fun.But the  two chaps kept up their barbed comments up until we packed up.Thank you lads it was very welcome being made aware of my short comings!A smashing venue, cracking wind ups and an all round nice session. And we will see you in a few weeks mate as Gruff and I can't wait to get back.

Lastly this made me laugh in the week from Wednesdays Times. With the Jimmy Saville affair making the headlines and the Badger cull being put back,Peter Brooks has again come up with another well observed cartoon. He is in my opinion bang on the money with this one.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and if you are on the bank tight lines.

The View From My Office Window

I like this, this little stunner is just along from our office where I'm typing this up from.I do feel as if I have been here for ever these last few weeks. No line has been cast,no peace and sanity has calmed my aching mind, befuddled with a merger we are trying to engineer for one of our clients. It's a tough old life at times for poor Monty,oh and the boiler packed up at home last night.Thankfully Gruff is coming over early in the morning to have a look,so I can still get back up here in the office at a suitable hour.My money is on the PCB board needing to be replaced,so for now the emergency fan heaters will come into play.Glad to say the gaff still has hot water though.

Obviously spending so much time in the office of late it  has not been all work, when I need a little break I have been catching up with a few blogs.I don't tend to follow many, preferring to have a little peer down from Yat Rock  at my own leisure.....

http://idlersquest.blogspot.co.uk/ This Is one I really enjoy and Jeff writes well,he tells a tale well with a degree of humor.I'm not a fan of blogs that are "I cast out, caught a fish, here it be".I like to feel I'm involved in some way if that makes sense.Jeff does manage that.

http://fishing-for-memories.blogspot.co.uk/ Marks blog keeps me entertained also .His videos are very good and he is so well spoken and polite.Every mother would like a son like Mark, mine got unlucky I guess having me?

http://blog.lumbland.co.uk/ And lastly this one.Lumby comes across as a sarcastic and caustic old bastard.Who I'm sure would like to see smiling curtailed in public,Christmas abolished and gruel to be eaten five times a week. But for all that his blog is good.

There are others but time at present does not allow,if I'm going to make the 18.00 Epsom service from London Victoria today.I must though mention politics, well the end of the conference season. After watching the so called "Big Three" these last few weeks,Clegg,Milliband and Cameron my conclusion is that not one speech resonated with me at all.No one spoke to me or for me,not one barnstorming spiel that made me go actually I agree...........

Three men who were bland, unconvincing and not one will get my vote in a few years time,It's not all doom and gloom though.Mitt Romney, now will our American friends really vote for a man who is a Mormon?Or will they stay with Mr.Obama? Both guys make our guys look like poets and learned scholars. That's how poor they appear to me any how.

I started this with a view from my office,it will be another two weeks until I can be back where I want to be and seeing sunrises like this.Pretty boring and pointless blog entry really. But it's given me a little break from work,so it's done its job for now.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend you lucky people who are fishing.
